FINALLY! The Canon PowerShot V10 is a vlogging camera that's actually better than your phone
The Canon PowerShot V10 is Canon's first dedicated vlogging camera - and unlike other so-called vlogging cameras, it's NOT just a regular camera with video-oriented specs!
Instead, it's been designed from the bottom up, specifically for the purpose of easy shooting and excellent quality that's as familiar as using your phone. And it's FINALLY a camera that might actually replace your phone for the purposes of shooting video!

This electronic softbox is THE FUTURE of lighting! Meet the Rotolight SmartSoft Box
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.Год назад
I've been taking photos for a looooooong time - but in nine years of shooting professionally, this is the first time I've EVER tested a piece of kit and immediately gone to the company's online store afterwards. The Rotolight SmartSoft Box is the world's first electronic soft box, and it's absolutely transformative. You have to see it to believe it!
This is the FIRST mirrorless camera!

The Panasonic Lumix G1 was the first mirrorless camera!* Released back in 2008, how does this pioneering Panasonic camera hold up 15 years later? Let's find out in this Panasonic G1 review, a decade and a half after release! (*No, I don't count the Epson R-D1 or Leica M8 because they were still optical, rather than true live view systems) KIT Camera: Canon EOS R5 Lens: Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L • Ca...
Transformers camera turns into Optimus Prime! (Canon EOS R5 review with a difference)

A Canon EOS R5 review with a difference! This is the brilliant, Japan-only collaboration between Canon and Takara Tomy: the Canon Optimus R5. A $145 collectible "toy", it transforms from a Canon EOS R5 camera with RF 24-105mm f/4L lens into Optimus Prime (and back again), and comes with a miniature R5 and lens for Prime to hold, as well as the Matrix of Leadership that he can hold or insert int...
Canon EOS-1D X Mark III review - sorry Sony, THIS the best pro camera!
Просмотров 106 тыс.4 года назад
The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is here - and while I was convinced that the Sony A9 II would be a better professional camera, I think I may have been wrong. With deep learning AF, an optical joystick, HEIF and HDR PQ support, CFexpress, 12-bit internal 4K RAW, head tracking, 20fps shooting and plenty more, Canon has combined the advantages of DSLR and mirrorless to produce a hybrid body that can s...
Canon RF 85mm f/1.2 DS lens review - is this the best bokeh ever?
Просмотров 18 тыс.4 года назад
The Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L DS (Defocus Smoothing) is the closest Canon will ever get to making a Lensbaby lens - its bokeh is just next-level wow. The question is, will it replace the standard RF 85mm f/1.2 as my favorite lens for the Canon EOS R? I put them through some side-by-side shooting comparisons to show you exactly how unique the bokeh is on this lens, and to help you decide whether it's...

Hands on: Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III review - better than Nikon Z50?

Canon RF trinity lenses review - Canon RF 15-35mm & Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L

The relentless pursuit of smooth bokeh has little to do witht photography but more to do with optical lust. Good points made.

Will be getting one next week and think I'll go with the reg version not because the money difference, but the DS version feels like you are shooting with a f 2 lens not a 1.2 lens and that greenish tint on it doesn't help, the bokeh being smoothed out feel fake to me and seem more defined as a ball than a nature bokeh.

Where's an optical zoom (as opposed to a digital zoom)? I'd never buy a proper camera without an optical zoom. Just because mobile phones don't have them, it doesn't mean they're not necessary for proper photographers. The Canon camera held up at the beginning (although probably more expensive) is worth ten times this in features. The Canon camera at the beginning isn't as difficult to set up and time consuming to set up than they make out here either.

Yes the DS coating is basically a radial neutral density filter. So it reduces the brightness of the bokeh edges. Which is also why the Boca looks perhaps a little bit smaller is because it’s radially dimming the edges of the bokeh circles in a smooth gradient.

Please consider diffusing your effusion. It is a nice light for gel replacement (i.e. a background light), but here are a few problems with it. The small size of the light and softbox means that it cannot emulate the soft fill of a large softbox (which means that the wrap effect and light falloff on a model's face are fairly intense, which is the nature of a small light source). The fact that it is continuous light means that you MUST shoot in a dark room, as any ambient light enters the image. A flash and softbox can be used in any situation. The continuous nature of the light wreaks havoc on the eyes/pupils of subjects, who end up squinting all the time (if you don't believe me, look at any headshot by Peter Hurley where his subjects are all grimacing in pain at the light streaming into their eyes). A regular flash system allows the eyes of the subject to relax, giving a much more natural look (unless you like the Hurley grimace). Finally, you are either incorrect or lying to say the flash of this light overpowers the sun. Try shooting a model at noon outdoors with this light and see if you can darken the sky while keeping the model's face properly exposed ... simply not possible as this light does not have enough juice. Your review is very effusive, but sometimes it is better to curb one's enthusiasm about the latest gadget to come out. Also, shooting for nine years is not a loooooooooooooong time.

Great review. You explained for who and what people this camera is good for. I have the ZV1 and used it mostly in house for webcam and showing off some dedicated devices to other people. The issue is I need to build a stand above my screen. When I screw it off the stand, to show something on the site, it is too cumbersome. At the end I don't use it very often anymore. I don't take it with me on my bike trips. the ZV1 is still too big for me. Of course I could use my iPhone, which I do. But then I want selfie or a video from a distance, no stand ! Try to find the right support with my iPhone fails often. And if something special is supported better with the iPhone (like panorama picture or slow motion), I take it out of my pocket instead. How nice the ZV1 is, the best camera is the one you always have with you. I use the Canon V10 for a few days now, I'm quite impressed for the things I want to do when I'm moving (biking, walking, webcam footage).

Hi, DS version - darker but ISO can go higher, can't it? Would be great to see the higher ISO in DS vs. standard 85mm and I guess, lower ISO? The gaussian filter can do the thing in standard 85mm when it comes to making ,,creamy,, bokeh? The DS is tempting as its kinda modern and sharper, as you said. Is it really worth paying more? Aww.. :)) P.s. Thank you for the review :)

Sorry for my poor English. I bought a very slightly used G1 five years ago and I keep on using it--especially when I go to the mountains and my main camera (a Nikon D610) and its accessories would be too heavy. There are two interesting features the review doesn't mention: -- I often check the DOF and the G1 has a button for it -- AND it has something else I've never seen on any other camea, even I've never heard about: It can simulate and show how the image would look--in case of a moving object e. g. a vehicle--if I take the picture with the pre-selected shutter speed (blurr!) IT'S A GREAT CAMERA, STILL!

Great to note that the G1 eventually transformed into the G85 and G9 for a similar size G body, compared to the GH series which is a much bigger body. A lot more features evolved into the G85 which is still available with 12-60mm kit lens (5x zoom similar to 24-120mm in FF) and best of all at a very low price. G9 is small also but has a much higher cost. Panasonic, thanks for keeping the m43 alive (along with Olympus or the company that bought them out). These G cameras from Panasonic are great for carry anywhere travel cameras in a small bag with decent zooms available in much smaller lenses than aps-c, which is arguably the reason m43 is still here. Great review!
